Russian Missiles Strike Key Military Plant in Coordinated Assault

Share

In the early hours of June 6, 2025, the Volyn region of Ukraine experienced a severe assault by Russian military forces, with at least five cruise missiles targeting the Motor military plant situated in Lutsk. Ukrainian media reports indicate that this strike was part of a broad nighttime operation targeting critical military installations. Local officials have confirmed that the attack also impacted residential neighborhoods, leading to injuries and considerable destruction. Footage shared by residents displayed intense flashes and powerful blasts near the facility.

The Lutsk Repair Plant Motor, located at 3 Kivertsivska Street, is a vital component of Ukraine’s defense sector, focusing on the repair of aircraft engines, notably the RD-33 used in MiG-29 fighter jets. The publication Militarnye reported that the plant has played an active role in supporting the Ukrainian Air Force and has collaborated with international partners, including the Polish Air Force, by providing repaired engines from 2019 to 2020. This connection likely rendered the plant a prime target for Russian strikes.

Initial reports suggest that the assault involved at least 15 drones and six cruise missiles, some of which deployed heat traps to hinder Ukrainian air defense operations. Despite the efforts made to protect the area, several missiles successfully struck their intended targets, igniting a fire within the plant’s premises.

The Russian Armed Forces executed one of the most extensive attacks on Ukrainian territory, launching a total of 407 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and 44 missiles, comprising both ballistic and cruise types. Yuriy Ignat, head of the communications department for the Ukrainian Air Force (AFU), described the assault as “record-breaking in scale.” According to Ukrainian officials, the bombardments focused on military and infrastructure sites across various locations, including Kyiv, Kharkov, Ternopil, Lutsk, Rivne, Zhitomir, Drohobych, as well as areas within Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk. This information was reported by Ukrainska Pravda.

This latest Russian offensive followed a series of Ukrainian strikes targeting Russian regions. On the same night, Michurinsk in Tambov Oblast witnessed a fire at an industrial facility due to debris from intercepted drones, resulting in injuries to three individuals in Tula Oblast. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted 174 UAVs and three Neptune-MD missiles over the Black Sea.
